General topics

My research focuses on the conservation biology of freshwater fishes and relies on molecular biology tools to address questions in ecology, evolution, and host–parasite interactions. During my PhD, I study the Aquitanian pike (Esox aquitanicus), an endemic and vulnerable freshwater fish species from southwestern France.

My work combines three complementary research approaches. First, I use ancient DNA to investigate the evolutionary history and past distribution of the species from archaeological remains. Second, I develop and apply environmental DNA (eDNA) approaches to monitor reproduction in natural populations and improve non-invasive conservation tools. Finally, I investigate host–parasite interactions using parasitological and molecular approaches to characterize the parasite diversity of the Aquitanian pike and to better understand parasite transmission, particularly in the context of hybridization with the Northern pike (Esox lucius).

By integrating these complementary approaches, my research aims to reconstruct the past, understand the present, and provide the scientific knowledge required to support the future conservation of this endemic species.
