As part of the INDIBIO project ‘Indicators and Bioregionalisation - Methodological developments in support of the DCSMM Pelagic Habitats’, and under the super-vision of Eric Goberville, my missions are as follows:
- To prepare for the collection and reporting of data on pelagic habitats under the OSPAR and Barcelona conventions. This work is combined with a clean-up of French phyto- and zooplankton community monitoring data so that it can be used in the INDIBIO project.
- Developing new operational, reliable and reproducible numerical methods for calculating ecological status indicators adapted to plankton communities.
- Continue to develop indicators to enable a better assessment of Good Ecological Status (GES) by:
- Carrying out an exhaustive literature review to list the indices and combinations of indices currently used to assess planktonic diversity.
- Testing their sensitivity and response to variations in data structure and composition to determine their limits.
- Calculating the PH1 (Functional Groups) and PH2 (Phytoplankton Biomass and Zooplankton Abundance) indicators, currently under development, in the Channel and Atlantic, mapping the results and characterising temporal changes.
- Developing a new calculation method and a new indicator for PH3 (Diversity) by testing the impact of data quality and the robustness of the indices developed.
- Addressing the notion of thresholds for the GES.
