General topics
Biomonitoring of aquatic ecosystems via environmental DNA analysis and functional ecology approaches
My research focuses on aquatic environments - both surface and subterranean - and the incorporation of multidisciplinary designs into the study of functional ecology. I work with a combination of molecular (e.g., environmental DNA analysis) and biogeochemical (e.g., stable isotopes analysis) tools to unravel diversity and functions of aquatic communities. My current main projects focus on hypersaline lakes biomonitoring (Australia and Chile), freshwater ecological status assessments, and groundwater ecology, ecotoxicology and modelling. I am the leader of the Subterranean Research and Groundwater Ecology (SuRGE) at Curtin University in Perth (Western Australia) and currently on a guest researcher position at BOREA.
