Eric GOBERVILLE
My research concerns are centred around a major axis that is a main interest in better understanding the spatio-temporal dynamics of species as a response of environmental and anthropogenic forcing. My work, carried out at different spatio-temporal and organisational scales, aims at (i) characterising the variability of ecosystem functioning and structure, (ii) defining and quantifying climate-environment-biology interactions, and (iii) modelling and projecting the ecological responses of key species to the effects of past, recent and future climatic and anthropogenic forcing (e.g. biogeographic displacements, extirpation).
My approach is based on (i) the analysis of monitoring and observational data, (ii) the application of ecological concepts, and (iii) the creation and use of numerical procedures and statistical methods. A major outcome of my research work is to propose operational tools/indicators to support decision making in the context of global climate change (e.g. decrease in the occurrence of key species, changes in biodiversity, alteration of the ecological status of certain ecosystems...).
I have thus contributed to the valorisation of data from national and international programmes by (i) characterising and quantifying the links between changes in coastal ecosystems, climatic forcing and anthropogenic influences, (ii) highlighting, using an integrative approach, the predominant role of large-scale climate forcing on changes in pelagic ecosystems in key areas in the North Atlantic, or (iii) by projecting changes in biodiversity in both marine and terrestrial realms using an approach that considers different sources of uncertainty (algorithmic, climatic and ecological) and that seeks to integrate the structuring influence of biotic interactions.
