Capsule, light and neuronal development in cuttlefish embryos

Abstract

This project aims, firstly, to evaluate the impact of artificial light (from LED and CFL technology) on the visual function, pigmentation and neural development of cuttlefish Sepia officinalis embryos during embryonic development and, secondly, to determine the role of the capsule surrounding the egg in its ability to filter, absorb and reflect light. These objectives will be achieved by using optical tools on the one hand, and developmental biology and ecophysiology tools on the other hand.
