An international team of researchers from the School of Marine Sciences of the Ruppin Academic Center in Israel, the IRTA of Sant Carles de la Rapita in Spain and the Joint Research Unit BOREA (MNHN, CNRS 7208, UPMC, IRD 207, UCN, UA) has recently publishedµ new tools for extraction and classification of skin colour and texture in fish and provides an open source classification system based on image analysis that can be used in studies on fish pigmentation patterns. These procedures can be used for identifying malpigmented fish, a common disorder in flatfish hatcheries, as well as for evaluating different fish pigmentation patterns in field studies.
