SEPIOM project

30 Jul 2015

SEPIOM project has received the financial support of ATM Mineral-Vivant of the MNHN. Teams 1 & 2 (BOREA Research Unit) are involved in the project.

In cephalopod coleoid lineage, sepiids (cuttlefish) show an internal shell composed of two distinct elements: dorsal shield and phragmocone. Its mineral composition (aragonite) is known for so long but the organic components remain to be determined.

Charles Le Pabic, who has a post-doctoral position at the MNHN from September 2014, studies how and with which components the shell develops during embryogenesis and after hatching. He looks at the dynamics of the structure using CT-Scan plateform (MNHN), characterizes the proteins of the different parts of the shell and analyses genes expressed in the shell sac.
