Un chercheur, une manip : l'os de seiche : une bouée élaborée
March 3 to April 10, 2015 at the Palais de la découverte (Paris)
Charles Le Pabic, researcher at the National Museum of Natural History (UMR BOREA) shares with the public his thoughts on the development and evolution of this inner calcified shell, commonly called "cuttlebone".
How this structure allows cuttlefish to regulate its buoyancy? Its architecture is it the same during first synthesis steps before hatching, and if so, will it change during cuttlefish life cycle?
Experiences, microscope observations, juvenile cuttlefish rearing, illustrate and attempt to answer these questions.
