Carbon Cycle at the land-water-atmosphere interfaces
My research deals with the biogeochemistry of ecosystems located at the land-water interface (floodplains, estuaries, mangroves, lagoons); I study their carbon budgets in relation with their hydrological, biological and chemical properties. I am a specialist of carbonate chemistry and greenhouse gas exchanges (CO2 et CH4) also interested in the origin and degradability of organic matters, and the biological activities that control the transformations of carbon in aquatic systems (plants, algae and bacteria in sols, waters and sediments). Most of my study sites are located in the tropics (Brazil, French Guiana), where these ecosystems are strongly impacted by land and water uses such as damming or urbanization, as well as climate change such as droughts, exceptional floods, and sea level rise.
